Gluten Free Party Food
Gluten free people rarely eat party food at a party. They are the people that visit a while. Then they leave early. They grab a bite to eat on the way home.
Gluten free and party usually don’t go together. People that can’t eat gluten do not want to bother others with their allergy protocol so nobody knows knows who is actually Celiac or Gluten Intolerant. They are just the first to leave the party because after watching everyone else eat, they are now starving! Hopefully Momsypoo can help change all that!
Don’t ruin a good thing
There are many foods that gluten free people can almost always eat. The problem at a party comes in with the utensils. My daughter has seen the best salsa destroyed with a Ritz Cracker. Once gluten has been introduced into a dip, the dip is no longer gluten free, and therefore non edible by a Celiac.
If anyone is suspected to be Celiac or on a Gluten Free regiment, then here are a few samples of how to provide an enjoyable party food for them. They may even stay until the ball drops or the fireworks are finished.
Check out Trader Joe’s for gluten free products
Trader Joe’s has wonderful gluten free crackers. They have a box that is especially good during the holidays. It is Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Soup Crackers ( or get a Pack of 3.)
I don’t really understand the name. They taste more like the chicken crackers we all loved as kids. I buy boxes to last me into the summer as they are my daughter’s favorites.
When my daughter was first diagnosed with Celiac the only crackers available cost 4x’s as much as a box of wheat crackers and the box was ½ the size. I haven’t even mentioned the taste yet! They all tasted like various pieces of postal packaging.
Dips and Veggies
Veggies can be dipped in anything! Make your wonderful dip, sauces, and salsas, and place varied veggies in the area. Hopefully the wheat crackers will not find that end of the table.
Cheese, cheese, and more cheese
Cheese! Cheese and corn chips or cheese and fruit. Cheese is almost never infused with gluten. I write almost never because I don’t want to be caught by the one person to read this and say “Gotcha!” Cheese should never have gluten of any kind. It is something my daughter thinks of as a safe food. She doesn’t have the read the fine print.
Anyone can be gluten free. It’s not something that shows.
My advice for party food is to think that quite possibly you may have a Celiac friend without even suspecting it. Think of ways to provide a safe environment for everyone without actually having to ask. My parties and my platters are always gluten free and no one ever suspects!
