Who is Momsypoo?
I am a woman of many hats. I am a 50something woman, wife, mother of 3, stay-at-home, home-school mother. OK! Just writing that made me exhausted.
I constantly cook for my family and anyone who happens to drop in. They rarely know that I have a gluten free daughter. They sit at my table and eat without realizing that they are eating gluten free food.
This wasn’t always the case. gluten free cooking took a lot of trial and error, mostly error.
I cannot tell you all how many dinners my family choked down, with smiles on their faces, trying not to hurt my feelings. I was the only one who was truly honest with myself! I said, “Self! This tastes like crap and my family is worth more.” That is when it became game on for me and anyone who knows me well, knows that I cannot lose!
I read and read and reread recipes. I was online so much that many times my family would blame me for being on my phone playing a game, when I was actually looking up a recipe for them.
I had to learn all the places that gluten is found… soy sauce! Why is there wheat in soy sauce? I had to learn all the places that never have wheat but the companies try to look gluten free. Oatmeal! There is no wheat, barley, or rye in oatmeal. Oatmeal is made from oat, a naturally gluten free ingredient. I had to learn which gluten free flours actually taste good and are worth my time and energy to buy.
So here I am. This incredibly fast paced person with one more thing to do. I live on my family ranch with my husband and 3 kids. I raise my own pork, goat, beef, and chicken. I will soon be having goat milk on my ranch and will have to learn again how to cook with a new ingredient.
My hope is to return to the basics. I want to cook great food for my family to enjoy. I want to go out and feed my ranch animals. I want to gather my eggs and bring in my milk.
If this sounds peaceful and delicious then please join me as I embark on another adventure in this craziness we call life. I hope you enjoy reading my posts. Please contact me and let me know how things are going out in the World. I may be too busy to see much of it again!
